Everlast 4308 Genuine Leather Speed Bag Gloves Review

Everlast 4308 Genuine Leather Speed Bag GlovesI have been hitting the speed bag for many years and have found that both TITLE and EVERLAST seriously "miss the boat" on speed bag gloves.

First, the main part of your hand that you use to hit the bag is the part you cannot see when you are hitting it - the meaty part near your pinky. What happens from repeated strikes is severe pain without proper wraps or gloves.

Both TITLE and EVERLAST do not include any real padding in this area on any of their gloves. They rely solely on the surrounding leather - holding the useless pads in place for your protection. Why they put a dumb piece of weighted material for you to smash you hand into the speed bag/heavy bag and then do not include proper padding - is beyond me.

ADVICE:Buy wraps/padding/gel wraps for under TITLE gloves. They make better speed bag gloves and do not utilize the old "quarters in my knuckles" method.

Additionally people - hit the speed bag low!!!I see too many people (men and women) at the gym hitting a speed bag that they can barely reach. It should be chin-high - and not much higher than that.Small circles with the arms always up.

Til next time,

Tony M.

About Everlast
The name Everlast is synonymous with boxing. Renown internationally as a manufacturer of boxing equipment, Everlast started out as a swimwear manufacturer in 1910. Headquartered in the Bronx, NY, the company was founded by 17-year-old Jacob Golomb. The son of a tailor and an avid swimmer, Jacob Golomb was dissatisfied with the durability of swimsuits because they barely lasted a season, so he began making suits that he guaranteed would last for a full year. He proudly gave them the name, Everlast. Although the swimsuits did not last through the years, the name did.
Over the next years, Golomb expanded his company into a small retail store that carried a full line of sports equipment. In 1917, a young fighter named Jack Dempsey introduced boxing to Golomb and Everlast. Dempsey asked Golomb to construct protective headgear that would last more than 15 rounds of intensive boxing training. Golomb specially designed the training gear for Dempsey. In 1919, Dempsey won the world's heavyweight championship wearing boxing gloves made for him by Golomb. Everlast became the headquarters for boxing equipment throughout the world. In 1925, Golomb designed elastic-waist trunks to replace the leather-belted trunks then worn by boxers. These trunks, now known as boxer trunks, immediately became famous. Jacob Golomb ran the business until he passed away in the early 1950's and his son, Dan, took over. In 1958, Ben Nadorf joined Everlast and purchased 50% of the company from the Golomb family. When Dan Golomb passed away in 1995, Nadorf purchased the family's remaining 50% interest. Nadorf remained the President and Principle Share Holder of Everlast until October 24, 2000.
Everlast men's and women's apparel and accessories continue today to be tremendously successful both inside and outside the ring. In addition, Everlast boxing trunks and equipment remain the proud and undefeated champion of the boxing industry for more than 90 years. The history continues, as the name states. Everlast has a traditional past and a knockout future.

Everlast Family Training Set Review

Everlast Family Training SetMy 7 year old son thinks these are "really cool".They just arrived, and he had a great time wailing away at the mitts. The mitts were comfortable for my hands - snug, not too tight. My 3 year old girl wanted to try punching too.The gloves are too big for her, but she had a fine time anyway. The product's overall quality seems more than adequate for its intended purpose.

TKO 501NBM Men's Neoprene Bag Gloves OSFO Review

TKO 501NBM Men's Neoprene Bag Gloves OSFOGloves have a lot of nice padding on the business side. I can hit a wall and feel very little. (Please don't go hitting any walls...just take my word for it).

My only issue with the gloves is that I struggle to get them on because the opening is too tiny for my meaty hands. Once inside, my hands are mucho, mucho comfortable.

I am very pleased with my choice.

EDIT: These gloves get smelly after absorbing a lot of sweat. Throwing it in the washing machine didn't help much. I wish there was a zipper at the side or something...but there isn't. I've resorted to pouring methylated spirits into them to kill whatever's causing the odor (which seems to work for a while). This is probably a problem with other gloves too.

Everlast Train Advanced Wristwrap Heavy Bag Gloves Review

Everlast Train Advanced Wristwrap Heavy Bag GlovesI was looking for a pair of gloves to go with my new heavy bag that was a nice cross between comfort and protection.I tried on traditional full hand glove (traditional boxing style) but I was not a fan of the feel and lack of ability to use my fingers once the gloves were on. I then moved to the more MMA styled open finger style heavy bag gloves, and that was definitely the right direction. These gloves fit great, protect my hand even after hitting the bag for long periods of time and I still have the ability to move my fingers.

I would definitely recommend these gloves and a pair of hand wraps if you plan to use the gloves for longer periods (definitely helps comfort) also the more I wear these the more comfortable they seem to get.

Harbinger 320 Bag Glove WristWrap (Black) Review

Harbinger 320 Bag Glove WristWrapI've used many pairs (7+) of these gloves over the last 5 or 6 years for heavy bag workouts (~5 hours a week). Including look-alikes marketed under different names which are essentially identical.

After about 8 months of use, the interior dye starts wearing off, so your knuckles turn black. Serious scrubbing after a workout to remove the color.A month or so after that, they start to stink and end up having to be thrown in favor of a new pair, although the gloves themselves show little sign of wear at that point. It's a regular, predictable pattern.

Tried glove dogs, careful drying, "BO" sprays, etc. The spray is useless, the glove dogs can extend it a few months before the gloves become biohazards, but that's not the real problem -- buying new gloves every year isn't so bad.

The problem is, every once in awhile, you get a pair which for some reason, are less effective protection.Switch to the new pair and knuckles start bruising big time immediately.Go back to the old pair, or get a different new pair, and the bruising stops. Same size, same feel, different protection results. There's something about a percentage of these gloves that isn't quite right and you end up with inadequate protection.

So I've started looking for something else -- it's too hit and miss. If you get a good pair, they will still go sour pretty fast and you're back to square one.

Possibly if you use them less often and get lucky with your first pair, these things won't be a factor.

UPDATE: Ringside's "Gel Shock Thunder Bag Gloves" seem to address the disadvantages of this style of glove. Partly open palm (still w/grip bar) means they dry fast (a couple minutes) so may not stink up as fast. The impact protection seems better. No XL size, it seems. Only question is how they hold up over time. We'll see.

FURTHER UPDATE: The Gel Shock's started transferring dye and stinking profoundly even faster (two months), despite the open palm. The good news is I've found rubbing baking soda into every part of the gloves solves the smell problem. Wouldn't you know the cheapest solution is the one that works best. So much for expensive sprays, glove dogs, etc.

However, the dye on the Ringsides tends to come off externally. So you leave red and blue marks on your clothes as well as anything you touch with the gloves. Never happened with Harbingers. Some of the red coloring on the Ringside's apparently isn't dye, since it has also begun "flaking off" to reveal black underneath. In fact, 2.5 months in, you can rub the red coloring off with your finger, like it's some sort of latex paint on the surface -- but not quite. Better protection, but a mess to deal with. Will see what more I can get out of them, but suspect they are destined for the trash faster than Harbinger's.

Another update:Also tried Primetime MMA-4 gloves mentioned by another reviewer.Nicely made gloves that hold their dye, but not ideal for heavy bag work. The padding is so thick, bouncy and shaped such that bag strikes tend to be "deflected" and bounce away.Makes for a very unsatisfying work out, stresses wrist, etc. These gloves seem better suited to grappling or flat hand work than a fist and head-on impact.

I've been switching between Harbinger's, Ringside Thunder bag gloves, and Primetime MMA-4 and find I am glad when the Ringside's come up in the rotation since they feel the best and protect the best.Too bad they bleed color all over everything. If they used more synthetics on the interior (less leather), better dye or no dye, they'd be the clear choice.

Everlast Neoprene Heavy Bag Gloves Review

Everlast Neoprene Heavy Bag GlovesI bought these gloves about a month ago and after seeing a negative review, I felt compelled to write a positive one.I have one of those freestanding heavy bags so the gloves I got came with the leather ones.. the ones that make you look like you have penguin hands.
These Neoprene gloves are SO much better than the standard gloves that most heavy bags come with. They fit pretty comfortably too considering (what they don't tell you in the review) they are size Small - Medium.I'm 6'4 and they fit me.(honestly, they BARELY fit me.a tiny bit bigger and I'd be completely satisfied)
Been using them for a month and haven't seen them rip or anything like that.A great purchase.

Everlast Mixed Martial Arts Grappling Gloves Review

Everlast Mixed Martial Arts Grappling GlovesI purchased the small/medium pair and they fit really well, but because of a manufacturing error there is a thick seam inside of the gloves that didn't get cut. It chafes against my finger a lot. They're a great pair of gloves. Really smooth fit, hard material on the knuckle, and the strap keeps the gloves snug. The under belly of the gloves are open, this feels a little airy than what I'm used to. Nice though.

Everlast EverGel Hand Wraps Review

Everlast EverGel Hand WrapsAlot of people who have written reviews, in my opinion are not realizing that these gloves are not being sold as a replacement for boxing/bag gloves.

These gloves are meant to be used a quick and easy alternative for HAND WRAPS, as in that tape/ace bandage looking thing that you see boxer's on TV wrapping their hands and wrists with before putting them inside of their boxing gloves.

They ARE overly tight and overly snug but that is to prevent injury to the small bones in your hand and also from spraining your wrist.

Two problems, the gel is to large to fit in some boxing gloves. And the stitching is somewhat weak , and since your buying this online ... I recommend going to your local sports goods store and try on the sizes and see what is good for you, that is what I did. Also over time the gloves break in like a baseball glove and become more comfortable and less overly tight.

Everlast Women's Pro Style Training GlovesThese gloves are an excellent purchase for anyone who is in a boxing or kickboxing class or for the casual user who likes to hit the bag at home.I'm a small girl (5'3), with small hands, but after trying on the 12oz gloves at the store, I opted to purchase the 14oz ones off of Amazon instead.I'm extremely glad that I did because my hands fit inside the 14oz gloves perfectly whether I'm wearing wraps or not, whereas my fingers were a little cramped inside the 12oz gloves when I didn't have wraps on. The padding on the gloves is exceptional, I never hurt my hands hitting the bag or during drills in class. The color has gotten me quite a few compliments, however the one minor complaint I have is that there is no headgear to match.Everlast makes camouflage, yellow, red, blue, and black gloves all with matching headgear, however their pink gloves do not come with any matching accessories except wraps and finding matching headgear online has been kind of a headache.Overall, I would still purchase the gloves regardless of the fact that I don't match when I spar, and realistically, if you're not using the gloves in a combat related class or you don't care about being color coordinated, the matching headgear problem isn't even an issue worth worrying about. Conclusively, the 14oz gloves get 5 stars based on their comfortability, functionality, and appearance.

Everlast Pro Style Training Gloves Review

Everlast Pro Style Training GlovesFirst I want to make a slight correction to the previous reviewer's text: the size/weight of the gloves doesn't change according to the size of your hand but, rather, to the size of you, the user of the gloves. If you are an average sized male you will be hard pressed to find a sparring partner if you only have 10oz gloves: nobody in their right minds would agree to spar with you because with such small gloves the risk of injuring the receiver of the blows goes way up. Hence 16oz is the standard size for sparring gloves. Women can use 14oz and children 14oz and 12oz depending on how big they are. The point with heavier/bigger gloves is to protect your training partner.
Anyway, on with the review: these are good, all-around sparring gloves. Their over-all quality is quite good and even the velcros are done well so you could use these for thai boxing as well without scratching your partner's neck and shoulders when clinching. However, I found that when you put more power behind your punches your knuckles tend to come through a bit so they're not the safest gloves around. Still they are good enough for pretty much anybody who's looking for a good pair of gloves for sparring.
I recommend that you get a separate pair of bag gloves or 10oz gloves for bag and mitt work since hitting the heavy bag and focus mitts harden the leather which, again, makes the gloves more dangerous to use in sparring. Remember to wrap your hands and wrists when hitting the heavy bag in order to avoid knuckle, wrist, and shoulder injuries.
Everlast is a good company and for the most part they make quality products. These gloves do what they are supposed to do.
